Hiking and running

Whether you prefer hiking, running or enjoy both, you can choose from the web of lanes, paths and trails around Casa de las Viñas to suit your activity and ability. Long or short, flat or undulating, vines or mountains – every day brings a different experience.

Climbing

Chulilla, one of the best rock climbing areas in Spain, is less than an hour away by car and boasts some 800 routes. Its limestone canyon is great for sports climbing and perfect for climbers of varying abilities with route grades at most levels. The pretty town of Chulilla warrants a visit in its own right and is ideal for a long, laid-back lunch.

Kayaking, rafting and paddle boarding

There are a variety of organised water sport activities suitable for all ages and abilities (some with the option of lessons) within 40 minutes drive of Casa de las Viñas at both Cofrentes and Venta del Moro. Sessions include rafting or kayaking on the river Cabriel and paddle boarding on the river Júcar with its impressive canyons.

Wine

The Utiel-Requena region has been making wine for more than 2,500 years. Today, with over 100 wineries, the region produces some of the most interesting wines in Spain, offering full-bodied reds, refreshing rosés, and delightful whites and cavas.

The soil and growing conditions here particularly lend themselves to organic production, and with the addition of the native Bobal grape variety, help to produce unique and award-winning wines.

You can sample the region’s wines in any of the bars and restaurants here, but a tour of the local bodegas and cooperatives is also highly recommended. Many are within walking or cycling distance of Casa de las Viñas, including the excellent Sierra Norte, which is less than 1km from the house.

Food

Wherever you choose to dine, you’ll find the local food diverse, delicious and great value. Many restaurants still offer a superb menu del dia for lunch, often featuring rice and pasta delicacies, with seafood, pork, speciality sausages and exotic salads also on the menu. A large choice of tasty tapas dishes is offered in most bars if you prefer a more casual approach.
